Light The Night is the only event in Australia which raises vital funds for research while bringing together those affected by blood cancer.

Now in its 11^th year, the event involves an evening lantern ceremony and walk, to be held in 140 locations across Australia. According to the Leukaemia Foundation, each day in Australia, more than 35 people are diagnosed with blood cancer, while more than 60,000 Australians are living with a blood cancer such as leukaemia, myeloma or lymphoma.

Chief Executive Officer of the Leukaemia Foundation, Bill Petch, said blood cancers are some of Australia’s most prolific cancers and are unfortunately on the rise. 

“As well as giving the community the chance to come together and walk in solidarity, hosting a Light the Night event is a rewarding way to show your support and help to raise funds to ensure local families affected by blood cancer receive the support they need,” he said.

The Leukaemia Foundation has supported the shire’s families through emotional support, education, accommodation during periods of treatment and transport to and from chemotherapy in the city.

People who register for the Light The Night event select a colour lantern that represents their place in the blood cancer community.

A gold lantern is for those remembering a love one they lost to the disease, while a blue lantern shows support and a white lantern signifies one’s own journey through blood cancer.
