For this quarter, statistics put Hepburn’s herd immunity at 85.17 per cent, down from last quarter’s statistic of 92.31 per cent.
The age group in reference, 60 to 63 months, is a small sample size so the percentage ranges widely from quarter to quarter. In the shire, there are 42 children in that age group, with 36 of those fully vaccinated.
Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas said it is disappointing Hepburn Shire is failing to reach herd immunity targets.
“It shows our message that vaccinations save lives isn't getting through to everyone. I will continue to work with local parents and community groups to make sure we encourage people across the region to listen to the science and get their children immunised,” she said.
“These are more than just statistics – this is about protecting local kids from deadly but preventable diseases.”
