Joosten was named Best Young Novelist by the Sydney Morning Herald for her debut novel Berlin Syndrome (2011), for which she was also the recipient of the Kathleen Mitchell Award for Young Writers. It was also made into a screenplay and released as a film in 2017.
Her nonfiction essays A Long Time Coming: Essays on Old Age were awarded in the People’s Choice category at the Nib Waverley Awards in 2016.
