Hepburn Shire Council is running a pilot cat desexing program to address the problem of feral cats in the region.
The program, which began earlier in the year, sees council helping community members with half of the cost of desexing their cat, which it is hoped will reduce the number of stray and feral cats falling pregnant, while encouraging responsible pet ownership.
Daylesford Veterinary Practice and Creswick Veterinary Clinic are assisting with the program.
To be eligible for the discount, a cat must be microchipped, vaccinated and registered with the council. A resident must also have proof of residency within Hepburn Shire and be able to provide previous vaccination records.
