Under 13s
The top spot on the ladder was up for grabs for the under 13’s, with the team on the top of the ladder, Sebastopol Vikings, visiting on a cold, wet wintery day in Daylesford.
Daylesford and Hepburn United were well prepared for the match, with great attendance and commitment at Wednesday night training sessions leading up to the match.
The team displayed teamwork, effort, and poise throughout the game.
Plenty of chances were created and in the end Daylesford and Hepburn United recorded a hard fought 3-0 win, securing the top spot on the ladder.
Goals were scored by N. Fletcher, Z. Koleski and T. Pelham.
Under 15s
Meanwhile, Daylesford and Hepburn United were defeated 0-2 by Ballarat White.
The saints forced a draw in the first round against Ballarat but, in atrocious weather conditions, could not overcome a more purposeful opponent.
The saints went into the break one goal down but even an improved performance in the second half did not find the back of the net, although they were presented with more chances.
Goal keeper Michael Armstrong kept the Saints in the game with an outstanding performance, while Asher Waldon also produced a fine performance in the second half.
Armstrong really is a young keeper with a bright future.
Ballarat eventually ran out winners two to nil. Best on ground were Michael Armstrong, Asher Waldon, Phil Kelly and Eric Kelly.
Seniors
Daylesford and Hepburn United’s seniors drew against the team on the bottom of the ladder, Victoria Park at the weekend, with a score of 1-1.
Victoria Park had a few extra quality players from their first squad to help out.
Daylesford and Hepburn United were missing some stars too but did well to get a point in the end, after being down 1-0 at half time.
Sean Luduke was the hero of the day, scoring the only goal but also missed the best chance at the other end. Francis Comber was best on ground again, rising the chances of a mid-season transfer to Melbourne City. Andrew Barnham and Ivan Carter had cracking second halves, and held Victoria Park goalless. Josh Smith had the last save of the day, denying Victoria Park a goal on the final whistle.
The seniors now slip to fourth on the ladder and need to win the next six games to finish in the top two.
