Why not spend some time indoors and write a piece to submit to this year’s Words in Winter competition?

For the first time, the festival is offering both budding and seasoned writers the chance to enter their short stories in a competition.

Fictional stories up to 2000 words in length, on this year’s theme, Change and Chance, will be considered for the $500 prize.

In addition, writers and poets alike are encouraged to enter The Venie Holmgren Environmental Poetry Prize, worth $1000. This year’s judges are Jessica Wilkinson and Stuart Cooke. 

Finally, the Children’s Writing Award is again a part of the Words in Winter festival. Pupils are encouraged to talk to their school about how they can enter a story about the theme, Chance and Change or this year’s Book Week topic, Find Your Treasure. 

The winners will be announced during the festival this August.
