An alcohol-fueled brawl involving up to 20 men broke out outside the Royal Hotel in Daylesford in the early hours of Sunday morning.
One male sustained a broken bone in his hand.
The Advocate understands a number of males from Daylesford Football Club, including a senior figure, were involved in the incident.
Club secretary, Carson White, said a number of DFC players went to the Royal Hotel on Saturday night following a club function.
He said when leaving the pub, the club’s senior coach was attacked by another man.
“[DFC’S] boys showed incredible restraint in leaving the situation and going home,” he said.
Officers from Trentham police station attended the incident just after 1am.
A spokesperson from the station said police would not tolerate alcohol-fueled violence and that they were investigating who was involved in the brawl and whether it was appropriate to lay down criminal charges.
The spokesperson said police would also consider other sanctions such as an alcohol banning license.
