Due to the overwhelming demand for the flu vaccine this year, there is now a temporary national shortage.
The national shortage is problematic with the peak season for flu outbreak being August to September.
Springs Medical said it has a small stock of vaccines for flu clinic bookings only. A small amount of vaccines are available for children under the age of three, people over the age of 65 and a very limited supply for people between the ages of three and 65 who have ‘at risk’ medical conditions.
‘At risk’ conditions include cardiac disease, chronic respiratory conditions, chronic neurological conditions, immunocompromising conditions, diabetes and other metabolic disorders, renal disease, haematological disorders and long-term aspirin therapy in children aged between six months and 10 years.
Vaccine availability cannot be guaranteed.
For people between the ages of three and 64, with no at risk medical factors, the vaccine is temporarily unavailable.
The government is working to fix the shortage but in the mean time, there is a wait until more stock becomes available.
