The fault at the phone tower in Kyneton impacted nearby towers, meaning customers in Castlemaine, Daylesford and Maryborough also experienced service interruptions.
Optus confirmed services in the regions were fully restored on Saturday.
An Optus spokesperson told The Advocate it discovered that six antenna cables had been chewed through on Friday.
“Technicians attended the site on Friday to find that service interruptions to Optus customers had been caused by local cockatoos chewing through all six radio antenna cables the tower uses to provide service to the area.
“Technicians attended the affected site to replace the damaged equipment and Optus can confirm services were fully restored on Saturday afternoon.
“We apologise to all customers who have been affected and thank them for their patience.”
