Members of other clubs, including from Clunes, Bunninyong, Brown Hill, Ballarat City, Sebastapol and Ballarat South seniors clubs also attended the festivities.
Club president Brian Reason opened the afternoon with an entertaining speech about the club’s 50 years.
He said the idea of forming an elderly citizen’s club was talked about in 1968 but the idea did not come to fruition until the first meeting, with 45 members, on May 2, 1969.
Mr Reason said a lot had changed in 50 years.
“50 years ago, John Gordon was elected Liberal PM, Rain Lover won the Melbourne Cup, Carlton beat Essendon by three points in the grand final and Graham Kennedy won the gold logie. Bread cost 21 cents and milk cost 19 cents a quart.”
In the early 1970’s, club members fundraised to raise money to build a hall. The current hall on Water Street opened in July 1974.
The club still has around 100 active members.
