Hobson’s Bay City Council, which comprises of Melbourne’s south-west suburbs from Altona to Williamstown, recently announced that it has appointed Mr van Egmond as its new CEO.
Mr van Egmond spent five years as CEO at Hepburn Shire Council.
Mayor John Cottrell said the announcement had been met with sadness and excitement for Mr van Egmond as he builds on his career in local government.
“Councillors thank Mr van Egmond for his significant work over the past six years in putting Hepburn Shire Council on a sustainable pathway.
“Much remains to be done in maintaining momentum in the management of Hepburn Shire Council, particularly in a challenging local government environment.
“There will be opportunities to farewell and thank Aaron for his work and contribution on behalf of the Hepburn Shire community.
“Council has commenced the process for CEO recruitment, and with the time-frame provided by Mr van Egmond, are confident of a smooth transition,” Cr Cottrell said.
Mayor of Hobsons Bay Council, Cr Angela Altair said Mr van Egmond impressed the councillors during the recruitment process as the strongest leader to take the organisation forward.
Mr van Egmond said he was proud of many of the projects he has achieved at Hepburn Shire Council.
He said he has achieved a lot in his time as CEO in Hepburn Shire, but it is many of the smaller projects he has worked on that he is most proud of.
Mr van Egmond said he was looking forward to starting his new role later in the year.
“I’m really excited to be given the opportunity to work as CEO with Hobsons Bay City Council and the communities of Hobsons Bay.
“It’s a great part of the world with so much to offer and I feel very fortunate,” he said.
Mr van Egmond will begin his new role on June 12.
