The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a strong weather warning for the southern half of Victoria.
Winds will average 50 to 60km/h with peak gusts of 90 to 100 km/h.
The winds developed over western Victoria earlier this morning and will extend to central and eastern parts later in the morning.
Winds are expected to rapidly ease over the west in the early afternoon and throughout Wednesday night.
Locations which may be affected include Warrnambool, Maryborough, Ballarat, Geelong, Melbourne, Traralgon and Bairnsdale.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees
* Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony
* Keep clear of fallen power lines
