General manager community services Kathleen Brannigan said the draft concept plan would be put up for community consultation in February 2018.
The project for a community hub in Trentham to include a library, a hall, visitor information centre and meeting spaces, has been in discussion since the Trentham Community Facilities Review in 2013.
The review recommended “pooling the community’s resources in to a hub to benefit the whole community”.
Proposed locations for the hub caused community divide and a call for an independent community consultation, before council voted to name 14A Victoria Street as the final site in August.
Antarctica Architects have been appointed to plan and design the hub. A community information session with the appointed architects was held earlier this month to look at the site in relation to the rest of the town, how the building would fit on the site and some of the sites constraints.
Trentham is experiencing 2.5 to 3.0 per cent annual growth, according to Hepburn Shire Council, which is listed as one of the reasons the hub is needed.
A community reference group has been set up to discuss governance and management structure for the community hub.
“It is intended that all groups will maintain their own identity and run their current programs but work together to look after the building,” the Trentham Hub website states.
