The Smeaton couple spent time during the two years since Tommy Tucker’s death raising funds for the defibrillator through raffles.
“It wouldn’t have helped him, but we decided we would try to raise some money for a defibrillator hoping it will save somebody in town,” Mrs Bomphrey said.
“We’re quite isolated out here. We don’t have police or ambulance, but we have our CFA so we thought we would raise some money to help them. It’s a bonus if it doesn’t save a life but if it saves one, that is what it is there for.”
The defibrillator will be based at the Smeaton CFA station for community use.
Smeaton CFA secretary treasurer Ron Cosgrave said CFA members would be trained to use it, but other community members should have the confidence to if required.
“It just might mean the difference to someone who is having a heart attack and you are waiting for an ambulance,” Mr Cosgrave said.
