Napoleons-Sebastopol’s Anthony Taylor continued his top form with the bat in Tuesday night’s season-opener of the Major League Twenty20 Cup, belting 86 runs off 57 balls to set his side up for victory against Mt Clear.
Taylor made an unbeaten half century in Saturday’s two-dayer before the match was abandoned due to rain and he proved the saviour in Naps-Sebas’ pursuit of 114 for victory.
Both openers made ducks which left Taylor and Brodie Symons (19 runs) at the crease at 2-2.
Taylor’s quickfire knock was superb, falling with just one run needed. Naps-Sebas passing the total with four wickets in hand.
Elsewhere, East Ballarat wasted no time reeling in Buninyong’s lowly 93-run total.
The Hawks took just 9.4 overs to smash their way to a seven-wicket victory.
Jack Lalor had a night to remember, taking 5-8 with the ball and backing it up with 41 runs off 25 deliveries with the bat.
Darley managed to defend its 112-run total.
Matthew Cape top-scored with 35 and teamed with Ryan Ali with the ball as the pair took three wickets each for just 17 runs combined – steering the Lions to victory.
Ballarat-Redan were denied its first win of the season in any form of the BCA, falling for 93 against Brown Hill, 14 runs short of the total. The Combine looked a slight favourite with five overs to go, but the momentum swung as Ryan Knowles dismissed Zac Jenkins (48 runs)
Wendouree had a comfortable win over Golden Point after setting an imposing 171-run total.
