CAN'T MISS: Presenting a solid list of country and roots numbers with no fillers, the Cartwheels will bring their full complement of musicians to the Old Hepburn this Friday night. Guitarist Jeff Mercer will join the band from Sydney.

Thursday, Moodswing @ Spa Bar, Daylesford

The band’s repertoire spans early swing, jive and blues to modern jazz.

Creating a balance of vocal and instrumental swing, jazz and blues numbers, including a cover of Johnny Cash’s Folsom Blues captured in a swing jazz rhythm. The band loves to switch instruments throughout each set, a rich selection of up-tempo tunes suitable for dancing and toe-tapping, as well as the classic jazz standards.

Friday, The Cartwheels @ Old Hepburn Hotel

Another full band gig – all country and roots, no filler! A great chance to hear the band play as a four-piece, with guitarist Jeff Mercer down from Sydney. Dave, Wendy, Charley with Jeff – you know the drill.

Friday, Americana Double: Tracy McNeil and the Goodlife, with the Stetson Family @ Theatre Royal, Castlemaine

Melbourne resident and Canadian songstress Tracy McNeil follows up the excellent Nobody Ever Leaves with a stunning new work on Thieves.

For those not familiar with her material, McNeil is a country singer-songwriter with a healthy respect for, and some justifiable comparisons to, the likes of Emmylou Harris, Nanci Griffith, Lucinda Williams and Gillian Welch. Her full band will be in attendance at this gig.

Celebrating their 10-year anniversary with the release of their new single Brother, the Stetson Family continue to deliver their spirited, free-wheeling bluegrass and gritty Americana-infused sound. Lush harmonies and songs take the audience on a journey down life's joyous and sometimes crooked highway. Their latest album, True North, further established the band internationally, breaking out of Australia onto US roots/Americana charts, and has received strong overseas reviews.

Saturday, Howling Owls @ Spa Bar Daylesford

The Howling Owls are a five-piece eclectic garage rock group. Their style spreads from rhythm/blues/country, playing originals to classic obscure covers.

Friday, Jared Brentnall @ Blue Bean Cafe, Hepburn Springs

Saturday @ Buck Jr, @ Blue Bean Cafe, Hepburn Springs

Sunday, Nick Noon @ Blue Bean Cafe, Hepburn Springs
