Dedicated ladies in Creswick and Clunes are giving ordinary plastic bags a new purpose by transforming them into mats for the homeless.
They are donating their creations to the Uniting Church and Soup Bus in Ballarat for distribution.
While working to help the homeless, the ladies hope to reduce the environmental impact of plastic bags. It takes around 700 plastic bags to create one mat, in around 80 hours of work.
Creswick group leader Anne Chamberlain said her passion stems from concern for both the environment. and homelessness, an issue that has affected her family.
You can donate plastic bags to the Clunes Neighbourhood House or Creswick Neighbourhood Centre. Call Jackie Rozenfeld on 0418 526 146 for more information or to get involved.
