The new mayor will be elected at a statutory meeting on Wednesday night in Daylesford.
Cr Klein did not name his pick for shire’s the next mayor, but said looking to the history of council could indicate who would take on his role.
“I couldn’t tell you until council has voted on the night, but if you look to the history of Hepburn, usually the succession will play out in terms of the deputy mayoral role, with that being a real opportunity to train and guide other councillors into the role,” Cr Klein said.
Holcombe ward councillor John Cottrell served as deputy mayor for the 2016-17 term.
“I would like to thank my colleagues, council staff and the community for their trust, support and constructive contributions to the past year,” Cr Klein said.
A statutory meeting to elect the new mayor is on Wednesday November 8 at 6pm at Daylesford Town Hall and is open to the public.
