As they did in 2015 and 2016, the Roos finished fifth on the ladder at the end of the home-and-away rounds.
And they were bundled out of the competition at the hands of an eighth-placed rival in Daylesford.
And for the second time in as many years it was Bulldogs that caused Waubra’s undoing.
Daylesford’s success was just its second win since round 12 and sets up a semi-final showdown with Buninyong.
The Bulldogs led the contest at every change and eventually recorded a 10-point victory at Dunnstown.
Ruckman Sam Winnard was named best for the winners on Saturday, with onballer Joel Cowan and forward Seb Walsh also proving important in the end result.
Luke Carland and Will Hughes led the way in attack with two goals each.
For Waubra, Will Booth and Paul Dodds were named at the top of the standout performers.
Josh Crawford was the only multiple goal-kicker with two.
The weekend’s upset defeat ends the coaching tenure of Grant Luscombe, who finishes his three-year stint at the helm of Waubra without a finals win for all of his hard work.
