For the past seven years the Trentham Food Hub has been pushing the message of sustainable, seasonal eating to the masses.
The group which hopes to one day become a self-sufficient social enterprise recently acquired their own premises in Trentham, which they are now fitting out after receiving a grant from Hepburn Wind’s Community Fund.
The organisation, which distributes weekly veggie boxes from local producers and holds a monthly produce exchange, is one of 52 groups which have received more than $102,000 from the fund over the past five years.
“It’s a big shed in the centre of town and we've been doing it up to make it a suitable place to work from and the grant will be very useful in bringing the shed up to scratch,” Trentham Food Hub committee member Glenda Holmes said.
Other groups to receive funding in 2017 included the Hepburn Wholefoods Collective and the Cornish Hill Committee of Management, who are in the process of rehabilitating the Scascighini Puddler.
