Applications are now open for North Central Catchment Management Authority community grants which offers a total pool of around $340,000 for maintenance and start-ups for groups, and individual, Landcare or community-based group projects.
A $5000 grant awarded to Friends of Trentham Creeks and Reserves has seen the group remove weeds and revegetate Trent Creek.
North Central CMA regional landcare coordinator Tess Grieves said the grants were looking for projects which built community capacity and shared knowledge.
“We will prioritise projects that improve the natural resource base of agricultural landscapes and encourage projects with a focus on improving soil health, innovative agricultural techniques and activities that increase community awareness and engagement,” she said.
“To be successful a clarity of purpose is vital, as is a clear direction and focus, of both the project and the community.”
Ms Grieves said the community played an integral role in the health of catchments.
“Community groups continue to play a vital role in protecting, enhancing and restoring our environment and sustaining our agricultural economy,” she said.
Application forms and guidelines for the grants are available at www.nccma.vic.gov.au and are open until June 23.
