Two cars were stolen and another four cars were entered around Daylesford in a period of 36 hours last week according to Daylesford police.
Keys were left in the ignition of the two cars stolen and property was stolen from at least one of the cars entered.
Daylesford police sergeant Lesley Glenn said it was important the community were vigilant and took care to ensure the security of their vehicles.
“It is concerning each and every motor vehicle was left unlocked,” she said.
“It is a shame this is happening in a small rural town.”
The vehicle thefts follow Trentham police reports of a number of burglaries from properties in the area. Property stolen includes power tools, gardening and farming equipment. Trentham police said offenders appear to be targeting properties that are not occupied on a permanent basis.
