Newlyn president Garry Lindsay looked as nervous as an expectant father as the Cats prepared for this cut-throat final against the neighbouring Tigers.
Peppering the goals early without much result the game was tight until midway through the first quarter.
The Cats midfield enjoyed the slightly harder surface and led by Luke Faull, Adrian Chew and Adam Sewell started to dominate play.
Four goals resulted and at the first break Newlyn had established a 23 point lead.
Asked to start again with the same intensity the Cats responded and the tempo of the game went up a notch.
Daniel Hammond helped lead the charge that saw a commanding 30 point lead at half time.
The Cats needed to play out the second half with the same mindset they had taken into the main break.
They did just that and by three quarter time had increased their lead slightly to 33. Not over yet though.
Sensing a strong challenge from Springbank and led by skipper Chris Eastwell the Cats intensity increased in the final quarter.
Newlyn was not about to lose this one.
They played a great team game and made Springbank earn every possession. They ran out winners by 27 points in their best four quarter effort this season.
Good teams respond under pressure and Newlyn had done just that.
Game over and the Cat’s president looked very relieved by the result.
Next week Newlyn take on Bungaree in the 2nd Semi Final.
