Forest Fire Management Victoria’s Jasmine Filmer said there would be an opportunity for the community to discuss summer fire predictions and preparedness with CFA, Hepburn Shire Council and Forest Fire Management Victoria.
“We are keen to talk to local residents to gain better understanding of community perceptions of bushfire risk and approaches to management in the Daylesford-Hepburn Springs area,” Ms Filmer said.
The community fire risk session will be held at Hepburn Fire Station on Sunday, December 10 from 11am to 1pm.
Hepburn Shire Council general manager infrastructure Bruce Lucas said council was undertaking its usual slashing and private property fire inspection program to prepare for the fire season.
“Our fire prevention inspection program is targeting the highest risks within our Shire in accordance with the Victorian Fire Risk Register. This includes localities such as Wheatsheaf, Hepburn, Daylesford and Bullarto,” Mr Lucas said.
“Council provided free green waste disposal at our transfer stations for the entire month of November as a further means of supporting our community to clean up their properties.”
Hepburn Shire Council has issued over 240 clean up notices to private properties.
“Everyone has a responsibility to reduce the impact of fire on the community,” Mr Lucas said.
“The fire danger period commenced on November 27, which means no unauthorised fires should be lit and agencies will be again taking a zero tolerance. With the recent rain, new growth will occur and everyone should continue to maintain their properties. We ask everyone to play their part to reduce the risk for their families, friends and the wider Hepburn Shire community.”
