These runners have a unique home ground advantage to prepare for the big event: the Catholic schools’ cross-country running course for the region is right in their back yard.
St Francis Xavier principal Paul Bissinella said the school was making a concerted push to lift its presence in the mass run, walk or roll through Ballarat streets next month.
The school managed to get 183 competitors (pupils, families and staff) registered in a late dash to step out last year. This year they want to make a bigger impact.
“We have a lot of families who are really active and we’re hoping to get more out there,” Mr Bissinella said. “This is a great cause that we really want to support.”
Run Ballarat donates 100 per cent of entry fees go toward the children’s ward redevelopment at Ballarat Health Services Base Hospital. This year’s event is on October 22. To register: runaustralia.com.au.
