The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for the region and much of Victoria.
Strong winds up to 110km/h are forecast this afternoon and into the evening.
A low pressure system is expected to move to the south of the state on Monday night, resulting in a strong and gusty westerly flow over coastal southern parts.
Locations which may be affected include Warrnambool, Portland, Ballarat, Geelong, Melbourne, Wonthaggi, Mt Buller and Falls Creek.
Recorded wind gusts to 11am include:
- Mt William (Grampians): 117 km/h at 6.18am
- Melbourne Airport 95km/h at 4.20am
- Wilsons Promontory 95km/h at 8.53am
- Fawkner Beacon 91km/h at 10.49am
- Cape Otway 87km/h at 5.53am
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
- Move vehicles under cover or away from trees;
- Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony;
- Keep clear of fallen power lines;
The next Severe Weather Warning will be issued by 5:00 pm AEST Monday.
