He broke a leg in a training mishap while holidaying in his hometown of Wodonga.
Lakers coach Tim Malone said Elkington suffered the break in a tangle with another player while training with his former Ovens and Murray league club Wodonga.
Malone said it would tight as to whether Elkington would be fit enough to play again this season.
He said the leg had been pinned to expedite the healing and rehabilitation processes, but it was too early to make a call.
Malone said it was significant setback for the Lakers.
“He’s important for us.”
Elkington is one of Lake Wendouree’s strongest overhead marks and a major avenue to goal, as well as a pinch-hitter in the ruck.
He has kicked 20 majors this year – forming a formidable key forward combination with Lucas Anderson (25 goals).
This is his second year with the Lakers, walking in off the street unheralded after spending a year out of the game.
Lake Wendouree faces North Ballarat City at Mars Stadium on Saturday’s round 12 fixture.
BACCHUS Marsh faces a wait before getting an opportunity to get late signing Jethro Calma-Holt into its senior line-up.
Recruited from St Albans in the Geelong league just before the closing of clearances at the end of last month, Calma-Holt strained a calf in the opening minutes of a reserves match against Sebastopol – his first appearance in Cobra colours.
He is expected to miss two weeks.
DARLEY’S Brian Graham has not been named for Essendon’s VFL clash with Northern Blues despite being added to the Bombers’ list.
Darley has a bye in the BFL this week.
Graham represented AFL Victoria Country against the Victorian Amateur Football Association last Saturday.
EAST Point remains uncertain if and when former Carlton defender Michael Jamison will play with the Kangaroos this season.
Jamison, who retired from the AFL last season after 150 games with the Blues, signed with East Point shortly before clearances closed.
STAN Hunter’s Buninyong football history book “From Bunny to Bomber” will be unveiled at a special function at the club on Saturday night.
The book features more than 200 pages with history on the club from 1875-2017.
The big day and night will include a past players gathering and the 30th birthday celebrations of the Bombers’ netball arm.
