Consortium Pellicano released the plans for the new convention centre earlier this week, which detail space for three retail and three hospitality ventures within the building.
The plans come despite the fact nearby office space on the northern side of the Ballarat Station has sat vacant since July 2014 despite receiving a $250,000 makeover. While the property’s zoning status lends itself to office use, it could potentially be altered for retail or hospitality purposes.
Pellicano development manager Ian Kennedy said the construction group and the state government had always envisioned hospitality and retail playing a major role in the rejuvenated space.
“Once we get closer to doing the fit-out we'll have to do a fair bit of marketing to secure tenants.”
