Bettes, who hails from Ballarat, produced a scintillating performance at Willowbank Raceway in Brisbane at the weekend, stopping the clock at 4.66sec for a 400m run.
As a result, she became the first Australian woman to travel over 300m/h on home soil and the first woman to reach speeds of over 500km/h in this country.
Amazingly, the 32-year-old achieved the feat while going for her licence in Top Fuel dragsters, the quickest accelerating vehicles in the world.
Bettes said her achievements had already helped raise her profile in the sport.
“The news of this has gone Australia-wide and world-wide now,” Bettes, a past Australian junior dragster champion, said.
Bettes grew up in Ballarat before leaving the region during her primary school years. She now resides in Brisbane.
