Described by sculptor Linda Klarfeld as almost too attractive to sculpt, Mr Abbott has previously told Fairfax Media he was “humbled” to take his place in the Prime Ministers Avenue.
The bust was commissioned by City of Ballarat, which footed the $25,000 bill after the Crouch Bequest ran dry.
The cost includes trips to Parliament House in Canberra for the artist working on the project to have sittings with the prime minister, and installation of the bust.
Mr Abbott’s bust will be unveiled at a ceremony on Monday, June 5 at 9.30am at the Ballarat Botanical Gardens when he will join Australia’s 27 preceding prime ministers. The event is open to the public.
Former prime minister Julia Gillard’s bust was unveiled in 2014.
