Cookie Baker’s folk, pop and country stylings compliment Lincoln Le Fevre’s unique punk-country storytelling, equally capable of air punching singalongs and crowd-silencing emotion. The duo are touring to promote Baker’s single, The Summer (featuring Tim Rogers of You Am I) released in April, with an LP coming later this year.
Saturday, Geoffrey Williams @ Horvat’s Supper Club, 7.30-10.30pm, free
Williams returns to Horvat’s, where he will feature his Nina Simone and Bill Withers show. A night of soul, blues and reggae with a mixture of flavours, intermingling interpretations of the well known and not so well known, originals rubbing shoulders with spontaneous musical happenings.
Saturday, Gruesome Twosome @ The Old Hepburn Hotel
Featuring Cam Burnside on acoustic guitar and vocals and Stewart Crosely on drums, Gruesome Twosome performs party favourites from the 60s to present.
Friday, Lunar Dust @ Blue Bean Cafe, Hepburn Springs
The duo version of Lunar Dust will feature material from EP Forbidden Dance this weekend. The band features Vanessa Craven on chaturangui (Hindustani slide guitar) and vocals, with Dont Gila on double bass.
Saturday, Nick Noon @ Blue Bean Cafe, Hepburn Springs
Under one his many guises, come and see who the real Nick Noon is. Solo and acoustic.
Saturday, My Friend The Chocolate Cake @ Sutton’s, Ballarat
The songwriting of David Bridie combined with the strings of Helen Mountfort’s cello and Hope Csutoros’ violin are elements that have made My Friend The Chocolate Cake so compelling since the early 1990s.
A strong presence on film and TV soundtracks for two and a half decades – and with a seven-album history – the band’s catalogue is multi-dimensional mural of modern Australia that illustrates its geography, political mores and predominantly suburban identity.
The band will introduce eighth studio album The Revival Meeting. Plus, who can resist a band with a song called Yandoit?
