Oberon Suffolk Stud at Musk and Blue Rock Suffolk Stud at Romsey are flinging open their gates for visitors to meet the producers and see how Suffolk sheep are bred and reared from Saturday through to Monday.
Deva Weitman from Blue Rock Suffolk Stud said certain breeds of sheep, like Suffolk, are better suited to prime lamb.
“It is a breed that is purposely bred as a prime lamb sheep,” she said.
“With that you can tell the quality. The texture of the meet is finer and it has a sweeter flavour.
“This weekend’s event allows consumers to be able to try prime meat, something they can’t do through big supermarkets.”
Bruce Rolfe from Oberon Suffolk Stud said visitors will be able to see the care and expertise which goes into his farm on the tours this weekend.
“Farming is about knowing what your environment is and how to do the best by your lambs,” he said.
“It’s important for all of us to try our hardest to keep the world in good health, and my farm is where I can do that.
“Consumers benefit from healthy food produced on farms.”
Restaurant du Fermier in Trentham and Verdure in Romsey will be serving up tender Suffolk lamb throughout the event.
Tours of the sheep studs begin at 10.30am Saturday through to Monday.
