The surf rockers saw their first indelible fan art on tour last year.
“We’ve found two (tattoos) which is crazy, which is two too many,” Fleming says.
“It’s just a spin out when you’re looking at them because it’s like that’s in your skin forever, your kids are going to see it.
“They didn’t really explain much, all the tattoos we’ve seen so far are just home jobs they say they just did it cos we love youse, I don’t think they booked in a tattoo shop that’s for sure.”
Fleming and vocalist and guitarist Zach Stephenson will play Karova Lounge next month.
The duo still live a houses apart on the same street they grew up in on New South Wales’ south coast.
“We never thought it was going to happen, we just kept doing it and then more people started to like us,” Fleming says.
“Heaps of people have goals and stuff but we never really had that in mind. “There’s definitely not much of a formula to it, that’s for sure, caring just a little bit.”
The band toured the America for the first time last year.
“A lot of Americans have a stereotypical picture of what Aussies would be and I think we pretty much nail what they think but the ones that know us consider that we’re a bit more low key, we’re not from the city.”
American shows can can be tricky for Fleming, who is 20-years-old.
But it’s nothing they haven’t surmounted before – at 15 and 16 they would sneak into the bar, wait till it cleared on jump on the departed band’s gear.
“We had a mate that ran the bar in Wollongong and in the future years he turned out to be our manager and at the time he was just working at the bar so whenever he was doing it we’d ask him to sneak in.
“We’d have to sneak into the bar and watch gigs and then jump on the gear.”
So far Fleming has only been turned back from two venues.
“I’ve found a couple of sneaky ways to get around the whole 20 plus thing, I can’t reveal as to how I did it but I’ve been doing it pretty well.”
Hockey Dad will play Ballarat on Friday, March 3 with supports the Apes. Tickets are $17 plus booking fee. Doors open at 8.30pm.
