One of the theatre’s volunteers was so moved by the movie “Lady in the Van” starring Dame Maggie Smith that she wanted to make sure that everyone within the Hepburn Shire community had an opportunity to go to the movies.
After discussing this idea with representatives from the cinema, council, Hepburn Health and various aged care and support agencies, funding was successfully acquired through the council’s small grants program to bring the idea to fruition.
In recent months the program has allowed elderly and disadvantaged community members the chance to go to the movies.
Project manager Madeleine Ellis said the project had been hugely successful in providing screenings of favourite films for people who otherwise may not get a chance to go to the cinema.
“I am so grateful that the wonderful volunteers at the cinema rallied behind this project and the Hepburn Council funded the cost of the movie hire.”
The final screening in the classic movies project will be The Wizard of Oz, which will hit the screen on February 23.
