Cummings, who finished sixth in the Geoff Taylor Medal, is rumoured to be heading to Casterton-Sandford in the Western Border Football League – but Daylesford coach Marcus Goonan has heard no such rumour.
Goonan said that some of the club’s senior players were not required to return to training until late-January, Cummings being one of those players, and as far as he was concerned Cummings would be there.
“It’s the first I’ve heard of it to be honest,” Goonan said.
“He isn’t required back at training until after Australia Day, as far as I’m concerned he will be there.”
When asked if he had been given any indication of Cummings wanting to take his services elsewhere, Goonan said: “Not that I’m aware of.”
Daylesford president Guy McLeod echoed the thoughts of the senior coach and said he had not received any requests for a player transfer from Cummings.
Casterton-Sandford Football Club told The Courier it had not signed Cummings, but it had been in discussion with the star midfielder.
The club said it was “hopeful” of securing Cummings, but said that was as far as discussions had gone and understood that at this time of year the rumour mill was running hot.
Cummings is a long-serving Bulldog and one of the best players in the league. His loss would leave a significant hole in a Daylesford side that just missed out on playing off in a preliminary final in 2016.
