And they delivered by scoring a convincing victory over Muckleford in a one-day match on Saturday.
Trentham batted first after winning the toss and got off to a solid start through openers Mark Reid and Marty Hull. With the score on 37, Hull was out for 19 then Ted Cooper joined Reid to take the score quickly to 84 before Reid departed for a well-made 31.
Another effective partnership followed between Cooper and Michael Chew, taking the score to 128 in fast time before Chew was dismissed for 25.
After losing three quick wickets, including that of Cooper for 58, the Saints were in need of some big hitting to set a challenging target.
With only five overs to face, this was provided by Alistair Thompson and Jack Boyer, who put on 58 runs with Thompson striking an incredible 46 not out that included five sixes.
The Saints registered a total of 5 for 200, again showing the value of a solid start and batting out the 40 overs.
Muckleford faced a big challenge and got off to a bad start with Tim Chew claiming the early wicket of skipper B McGuire.
However, Trentham’s bowlers could not find their line for a while and runs began to flow until Jake Sartori and Michael Chew swung things back in the Saints’ favour by taking wickets and slowing down the run rate.
Muckleford slumped from the reasonable position of 2 for 64, to 6 for 73 with only 15 overs remaining.
More tight bowling from Trentham and another wicket made Muckleford’s task too difficult and they could only finish on 7 for 137.
Best bowler for the Saints was Jake Sartori, who finished with 3 for 10 from eight overs. He was well supported by Michael Chew, Tim Chew and Cooper who each took a wicket.
Next week, Trentham A-Reserve is back in action in a two-day game at home against Guildford, while the B Grade team has a bye.
