The tournament was held in Melbourne and featured clubs from all over Australia.
Head instructor Kyo Sa Nim Damien Smith said the Daylesford Tang Soo Tao club had been looking forward to this event since their trip to the Darwin Tournament in 2014.
“We have trained hard for this and everyone has put in a great effort. But it’s not just about winning or losing. It’s a chance to catch up with the other clubs around Australia, meet up with friends and then show them what we’ve got,” Smith said.

The tournament events included sparring (a controlled fight) as well as hyung or forms - a display of elegance and precision in a fight movement sequence.
Daylesford sent a team of 10 adults and seven Karate Kids to the tournament and brought home, two bronze, seven silver and three gold individual medals, plus a bronze trophy for the team one-step event.
Daylesford’s sparring team defeated Melbourne in the final to win the gold trophy.
“I am very proud of our club. We supported each other, showed great team spirit and performed our very best …. and won some medals,” Smith said.
Tang Soo Tao is a martial art that unifies body, mind and spirit through a traditional Korean style of karate. It is an art tested and tempered on the lawns of Buddhist monasteries and on the field of combat and its history is a long and honourable one.
Tang Soo Tao is practiced in a controlled environment.
The club trains at Bodhidharma in Shepherd’s Flat twice a week, with a Karate Kids class on Mondays.
