Initially attending the event as spectators, the riders were delighted when the Maryborough and Ballarat RDA Centres gave them an opportunity to participate, lending their horses.
The riders rode a dressage test and then a show jumping course, replicating two of the three equestrian events held at the Olympic Games. Then for fun, riders and their horses participated in simulated boxing matches and a swimming relay.
Daylesford RDA President Wendy Hogben said the highlight for the riders was having their medals presented by former Olympians Margaret McIver and Bob Bath.
McIver was the first Australian to ever compete in dressage, which she did at the 1984 Los Angeles games. Bath, who is also the president of Ballarat RDA, represented Australia in boxing at the 1956 Melbourne games.
