The annual kite festival will be held September 4, with organisers expecting everyone from serious kite enthusiasts to children planning a nice day out with their dads.

Organiser Liz Kelly said she was expected a turnout of about 500.

“As its the third year in a row, it’s gaining momentum. People had such a good time last year that hey’re coming back,” she said.

“We get the extreme kite people from Ballarat and they have kite buggies – their kites tow them along the ground. Because they’re enthusiasts, they collect these big kits, some of them are quite expensive – $3000 a kite.

“They are full-on kite addicts. Their whole life is about wind and wind directions and the right thermos. They’re true enthusiasts.”

The event will be held from 12pm to 4pm at the Dean Recreation Reserve, with kite-making workshops, demonstrations, and delicious food.
