That’s the reason the Trentham participants in this year’s Clever Towns Challenge have given for their success.
The team completed all answers in the Snodgers crossword puzzle, getting them all correct bar one.
The challenge is held annually for Words in Winter.
About 20 people turned up to Trentham’s library to complete the general knowledge puzzle of 45 questions. Clunes, Newstead, Daylesford, Maryborough and Creswick also participated.
Participant Mike Gretton said it had been three years since Trentham had won.
“Its the cool climate that keeps our brains active. We don’t get addled with all the heat,” he said.
He said the team completed the first dozen questions within 10 minutes, then agonised over the final three for more than half an hour.
Their one incorrect answer was about an Irish man who became the first baron of Sydney. The answer was “Cosby”.
