“Community Green” gives people, companies and community groups the opportunity to offset the carbon footprint of their home or business – or even offset travel, events, products, services and gifts.
Customers can buy renewable energy certificates, with the money going towards the farm’s renewable energy projects.
The news comes as the farm, which is located in Leondards Hill, just south of Daylesford, celebrates its fifth birthday.
“We were getting contacted by local governments, businesses, event organisers and individuals who wanted to offset their activities and we thought we could create a package to make it easier for them to buy direct from Hepburn Wind and be able to promote their actions,” Hepburn Wind spokesperson Taryn Lane said.
“We have established Community Green as a model so that other community generators can also use it to make their renewable energy certificates available to the public once they are up and operating.”
Ms Lane said when individuals or companies offset their carbon footprint, Hepburn Wind could extinguish Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) on their behalf, making a contribution to “greening the grid”.
The farm also recently hosted energy group Geelong Sustainability to learn about how communities could build and manage their own clean energy projects.
Geelong Sustainability is working to develop solar projects in and around the city.
The Geelong group has installed solar panels on South Geelong Primary School.
The stud tour came on the back of dozens of community groups uniting to call on the federal government to empower areas to generate their own electricity.
Hepburn Wind supported this, saying removing red tape and financing support to help communities build their own wind farms and solar parks would create hundreds and jobs and reduce the country’s reliance on fossil fuels.
