The local woman in her 50s was going to the gym in Railway Avenue at about 6am when a man approached her with a gun, Acting Sergeant Rod Webster said.
“The victim pulled up in her car and was approached by a male,” Acting Sergeant Webster said.
“He pointed a gun at her and the offender told her to hand over car keys.
“The victim did not.
“The offender then pulled trigger and the gun went click – but didn’t go off.
“It is believed it was an imitation firearm.
“The attacker then fled the scene, heading in westerly direction in a car – possibly a Holden Commodore no description other than that.”
The man is described as being in his early 20s, about 5 foot 6 inches with a stocky build and brown, wavy hair.
Acting Sergeant Webster appealed for anyone with information to contact Castlemaine Police on 5470 4100 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
