Making a welcome return to The Grande is Sarah MacLaine, performing with her trio.
Sarah made an impact on her first visit, moving effortlessly from pop to jazz, blues to R&B, disco to Latin.
She performs everything from The Beatles to Beyoncé, Ella Fitzgerald to Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson to Michael Bublé!
Friday, Capo Brothers @ Perfect Drop
Capo Brothers are Trevor Shard (acoustic guitar, vocals) and Andy Vogel (blues harp, accordion, percussion).
Trevor Shard writes songs that paint pictures of real people and places.
Andy Vogel is a fine musician who crosses easily between guitar, keyboards, accordion and harp.
Friday, Brigitte Heyer @ Blue Bean Cafe – Hepburn
Brigitte comes from a musical family and learned to play the violin aged 12.
She started playing acoustic guitar in the early 90s, wrote her first song in 1994 and has not stopped since.
She has been a regular at open mic events around Canberra until her recent move to Victoria and is a writer-member of the Australian Songwriters Association.
Brigitte’s style of singing could broadly be described as folk-orientated, although many of her self-penned tunes have a cabaret feel about them.
Her influences are varied but she holds a special place in her heart for Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan.
Sunday, Jimi Hocking @ The Old Hepburn Hotel
Jimi Hocking is a songwriter, singer and guitarist, and the self described “electric love child of T-Bone Walker, BB King and Jimi Hendrix”.
A fixture on the Melbourne pub scene for as long as anyone can remember, this guy’s stunts, control of his instruments, and sheer talent – be it with guitar or mandolin – ensures he is still one of the ‘must-see’ acts in blues today.
Jimi’s early work began with The Astroboys and The Astros, where he was actually known for his work as a hard rock artist.
The combination of high speed picking and blues bends impressed many artists and actually helped him land support gigs with Joe Satriani, Edgar Winter and George Thorogood.
