More than 20 truck drivers were issued with notices for driving vehicles with major defects.
Sergeant Barry Hills urged drivers to check their vechicles before driving to ensure they were safe and roadworthy.
“The major defects ranged from broken break discs to major damage to airflow and exterior problems,” Sergeant Hills said.
18 of the vehicles required full road worthy checks.
Police nabbed three unlicensed drivers and conducted 248 preliminary breath tests – all were negative.
Sergeant Hill praised drivers for not driving while intoxicated but warned these operations would continue to occur.
“The main message is that often drivers get in their trucks and rely on mechanics check,” Sergeant Hill said.
“They really need to educated into relation to trailer safety.
He said all drivers should do checks before driving.
“It should be no different to checks pilots do … they can cause very serious accidents.”
