An open house in Creswick will give locals the chance to speak to managers about the rolling plan and how it would be implemented.
Acting Midlands District Manager John Searby said the informal event would provide people with detailed information.
“The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) is hosting an Open House for people to discuss the three year rolling plan as it prepares for the coming summer season,” Mr Searby said.
“The fire operations plan is part of our broader program to reduce bushfire risk and the open house gives people a chance to talk directly to DELWP and Parks Victoria about long term landscape scale fire management strategies and local operational detail.”
DELWP have focused on engaging the community throughout the planning process.
The operations plan has been developed in consultation with local communities.
The plan includes details of proposed planned burns and other fire protection works, including mowing, slashing and clearing on public land.
DELWP Fire and Land Grampians regional manager Jon Rofe said the consultation process had been expanded.
“The Victorian Government is committed to planned burning across the state to reduce bushfire risk faced by Victorians and we need the community’s involvement as an important part of the program,” Mr Rofe said.
“Ideas from locals help shape the plans and we make changes where we can, but as always, the priority must be to get this vital work done to reduce bushfire risk faced by our communities.”
The Victorian Government has received recommendations from the Inspector General of Emergency Management on the future approach to fuel management.
People have the chance to drop in on Wednesday, August 19 from 3pm to 6.30pm to discuss local fire planning issues, like individual planned burns.
They can discuss fire planning issues, including planned burns near their home.
