Daylesford's dawn service and march tallied record numbers, with more than a thousand people attending the events on Saturday. 

More than 50 wreaths were also laid, meaning "the whole population was represented".

"A few volunteers put on the breakfast and morning tea which are treasured social events which make a strong contribution to the success of our commemoration," Mr Pyers said. 

Services were also held in Creswick, Hepburn, Eganstown, Clunes and Trentham, with the Anzac Centenary boosting numbers across the region. 

"I do think the 100th anniversary got people really thinking and brought it to light more," Mr Pyers said.

"People are starting to come more and more and that makes it even more special." 

Daylesford singer Sallie Harvey and Commander Andrew Wright both took part at the Daylesford service. 

Four Australian Defence Force members also formed a guard of honour to replace a cancelled official Catafalque Party.
