We would love an onsite drycleaner, shoe repairer and watch maker. A store catering for underwear, bras, socks, stockings, PJ’s for adults and children, pillows, sheets, doonas and track suits, jeans and lowered priced clothing items, kids and adult shoes etc.
An added bonus would be a fabric store stocking items such as bias binding zips and other sewing aids. Many local shopkeepers are missing out on sales because of the constant shopping migration to Ballarat, Kyneton, Bendigo and Melbourne, not to mention the internet.
It would be great if there was cheaper housing (both rental and otherwise prices bumped up by greedy local agents) as many homes are poorly maintained without adequate heating and other amenities.
A more permanent resident consideration/care approach by the council would do much to stop the proliferation of cafes and specialist shops, a ludicrous situation when one cannot buy a saucepan of reasonable price.
Another problem is the lack of publicity of local public events, such as the wonderful parade and concert on Saturday night, April 11. The street should have been packed but without adequate publicity many people were unaware of the fabulous event put on with resident’s rate money. Why was it not on local radio and local papers?
We also need better television, radio and telephone communication. These facilities are unreliable and frustrating for all and in the case of breakdowns, accidents, medical emergencies and bushfire, potentially life threatening.
We also need a warm therapy pool for the elderly and disabled as well as a gym for all.
Better transport to railway stations and nearby towns is also needed.Local shopkeepers are missing out on many sales of ordinary everyday items.
The council also needs to take note that there are now more permanent residents in Daylesford. There are less weekenders, many of which are being sold and rented out on a long-term basis. Therefore the demographic is changing and the price gouging must stop.
The excuse for the high prices is “this is a tourist town”. Creswick, Ballarat and Bendigo are also “tourist towns” why is the petrol 12-20cents a litre less – (it doesn’t cost 12-20 cents to transport a litre of petrol), nor is coffee and cake $10.50 a serve. Even the local pharmacy charges more, why?
How many other residents think likewise?
