The nine-year-old business recently signed up to the franchise, after the former Vincent Street Mitre 10 closed down last year.
And it's paid off, says co-owner Sonja Ridge, with the business being swamped with customers ever since making the move.
"Locals are really accepting it and it's great for the community," she said.
"People do want to buy local, you just have to give them the chance.
"I must admit it's been a long process getting on board Mitre 10, a roller-coaster with ups and downs, but it's been worth it because now we can offer hardware and people won't have to shop elsewhere."
Five staff members from the former store are also now working at the new Mitre 10.
They helped out on the open day, which featured two 'Blockheads', Paul Bangay and a visit from the Dulux dog.
Ms Ridge said the buzz on the day proved people were getting more into home renovations.
"People are really getting into little projects and are inspired by all these new television shows," she said.
"It's great to see."
