Club member Scotty Whittle gave the majority of the crowd what they wanted to see, he raced his Valiant Charger to the win.
In other divisions Nathan Fawn’s won with a fantastic drive in the Open VSC Class and Jamie Collins took the win in the AMCA division.
About 30 competitors fronted for the Standard Saloon Blue Ribbon held in honour of former club member Darryl Chivers.
Nine heats were scheduled to run giving each driver three races to determine their starting position.
Heat wins went the way of Luke Dart, Gordon Russell and Whittle in round one then Mick Lovell, Whittle and Mark Seller in round two.
Rain then interrupted the race meeting causing a programming alteration which meant the third round of heats was cancelled.
The visiting AMCA division were very keen to race and with their support the track was re-prepped by grader and pace vehicles before the AMCA’s came on the track and sealed it over ready to race again.
In the final Whittle was quick out of the blocks.
Patrick Vuillermin also got by Russell and challenged Whittle.
He looked capable of a making a dash to the lead before he also ended his race infield.
Whittle led the complete race distance and went on to beat Russell, Craig Templeton, Cathal McCaughey and Seller.
“Firstly, a huge well done to the club volunteers for bringing the track back to go racing after the rain and doing their best to accommodate everybody,” Whittle said.
“To all of my fellow racers in Standard Saloons, without you being here I can’t have the same amount as fun as you do on a Saturday night, so thank you.
“It’s an honour to win the Chivers Memorial.”
In the AMCA Country Cup round four heats were held with Kevin Peachey, Paul Sullivan, Alan Cullinger and Sullivan the winners.
Sullivan looked the most likely to win given his heat race performances and then blew that opportunity when he was deemed to have jumped the start of the final and sent to the rear of the field.
Collins took advantage of this and while Sullivan managed to use the high line perfectly to round about half a dozen starters on lap one and move to the middle of the field, he was never close enough to cause any trouble to Collins.
Collins won from Dean Heseltine, Brendan Jarvis, Ashlee Harris and Alan Cullinger.
The Open VSC Sedans races included drivers with various sedan cars from the Victorian Speedway Council divisions.
The four heat races were won by Fawns, Leigh Bourke, Frank Dickson and Harley Nicolaisen.
With various battles going on through the field all eyes were on the lead three in the final.
Fawns took the win over Jay Nicolaisen in his last sedan race meeting for the foreseeable future having sold his race car, then Harley Nicolaisen, Aaron Bunton and Frank Dickson.
Redline Raceway returns on February 21.
