While there were some tears among the little ones, most newbies started the day by running in the gates with a smile.
Daylesford Primary School's Harrison, 4, said he hadn't eaten much that morning, but he was certainly ready to get into it at 8.45am.
His new friend Mia, 4, wasn't nervous about much at all - she just wanted to start art classes and make newspaper bon bons.
A total of 36 preps enrolled at Daylesford Primary School this year, with one prep starting at Yandoit, and five at Drummond.
